RBGIWG

The Red-breasted Goose International Working Group is an informal expert group of organizations working for the protection of globally threatened specie - Red-breasted Goose – Branta ruficollis. It’s goal is to implement the International Single Specie Action Plan for Branta ruficollis. The coordinator of the RBGIWG is located in Romania ( the hosting organization is SOR – Romanian Ornithological Society ) – one of the most important wintering area for RBG along with Bulgaria and Ukraine.

MONITORING

Simultaneous winter counts for Red-breasted Goose

The main wintering sites for Red-breasted Goose are along the Black Sea cost in Ukraine, Romania and Bulgaria. In order to collect more information about the dynamic and size of the population of Branta ruficollis simultaneous winter counts are conducted at wintering sites.

Starting with November till the end of March, each year, teams of ornithologists from Ukraine, Romania and Bulgaria are counting Red-breasted Goose twice a month.
