In 1994 from behalf of BirdLife International, WWT (Wildfowl and Weetlands Trust) drafted the International Single Specie Action Plan for Red-breasted Goose.
These documents (SSAP) are developed to establish population trends for those species which are considered to be under threat or with an unfavorable conservation status throughout their whole range. In order to define adequate conservation activities, the SSAPs identifies the threats posed and roster all the conservation measures in a systematic and structured way.
The Red-breasted Goose International Species Action Plan was published in 1996 by the Council of Europe and covers the species' global range: Azerbaijan, Greece, Kazakhstan, Romania, Russian Federation, Turkey and Ukraine.
In July 2005, in Tulcea, Romania took place the Red-breasted Goose International Conservation Action Workshop. Experts from the species' global range were invited.
At this workshop there were produced several materials along with a SWOT analyze.
In order to strengthen the conservation of the species, the AEWA Secretariat, in cooperation with other organisations, such as RSPB, VBN and WWT, is providing support to the International Red-breasted Goose Working Group (IRBGWG).
